SOFTWARE, SOFTWARE EVERYWHERE.

Dear producers, mucisiancs, artists, DJ's, etc...

What software/hardware do YOU use and what is your production methology?

I use Reason 4 and a MIDI Casio Keyboard, USB driver, and Korg Nanokontrol. Pretty much (all I think) of my mixes are MIDI based. Other than the occasional Dr. Rex drum loop, everything is original. What about you?

pic related, my babby.

I'm bored, far from anything professional, but I'll give it a go. :D

I use FL9, not because I'm some retarded 13 year old making pitiful hip-hop beats, but just because it's user friendly, and about 7 or 8 months ago I made my first step into the electronic music world. I'm originally an instrumentalist myself, so the musical part wouldn't be a bother. I'm just trying to improve my production skills.

My software isn't much more than a PC. I would like to have a MIDI keyboard and a mic, that'd also be really helpful. I only do original songs, except for a handlebars dubstep remix I'm working on, but I'll need NI Massive for that, and that'll cost me a lot or I'll have to find a good download for it.
Reason really interests me, because I heard it has really good synths, but I heard it's more for the experienced producers, which I'm not (yet? :D).

So there's a lot of things I have on my wishlist, but I have to think about school, work, my instruments and social life.
Apart from that, I'm making music almost all day.

I've heard that Reason is more difficult... but I don't understand how that's possible. I started out as simple as it gets... garage band. Reason is basically that except for 2 things. 1). Reason itself doesn't allow for audio input into a timeline (there are expansion packs or you can use something called "ReWire with cubase.
2). It is a hardware simulator. You know how FL has little panels for the VST's, like the bass kinda looks like a bass guitar... well everything in Reason is like that. You can see all the components go together as if they are hardware. Synth-wise, there are a bunch of good VST's with tons of options that you will figure out over time. Then you have NNXT sampler which plays anything you want, whether they be sounds or set instruments. It's as easy as getting a sound file, setting the key range, and playing it. The NNXT makes anything into an instrument.

It took me a few months to get good, but i have mastered it and never had to look at a manual... idk, maybe i am just good with wiring.

FL makes no sense to me. I guess it works for anyone who doesn't have a keyboard, but I am incredibly uncomfortable creating notation with out MIDI. Even with drums, I have to set keys and play them like that.
Still have to read the manuals i got for it... but it's like... what? And you have to BUY all this extra stuff... pfff.
I need to upgrade Reason since 5 came out.
